The Governmental Affairs practice is supervised by both the former Superintendent of Insurance in New York State, Albert B. Lewis, former Vice President, Government Affairs for Continental Insurance. Together, they maintain extensive regulatory contact with insurance commissioners, deputies and other regulators across the nation.
These ongoing regulatory contacts, coupled with decades of experience in insurance regulation, provides this Department with in-depth experience and background in the following regulatory areas: Licensing, Product Approvals, Rate Approvals, Agency and Brokerage Issues, Form Approvals, Redomestication, Offshore Companies, Compliance Matters, Mergers, Acquisitions, Assumption of Insurance Business, Free Trade Zone in New York, Surplus Lines Status, Testimony before Regulatory Bodies, Financial Matters (including Investment Issues), Representation of Alien Insurers, Solvency and Financial Examination.
The Regulatory Affairs Division also handles the defense of market conduct examinations on claims and underwriting, and has extensive experience responding to alleged violations of statutes and regulations by property-casualty and life insurance.
